Building an enterprise - Wollaton Building Limited
Although Liam Logan currently runs the family building firm, he used to work in IT. So when Wollaton Building needed an accounting solution, he knew just what he was looking for. 'I've used Liberty before, so I knew how well the system would meet our needs,' says Liam, 'with online accounting software you can avoid the hassle of backups and upgrades,' and you don't have to tie yourself to a supplier indefinitely. 'I didn't want to go the Sage route,' he adds.
Liberty was the only one with integrated payroll...
By choosing Liberty, with its monthly rental charge, this small limited company has also been able to keep its accounting costs predictable and manageable. 'The price is very competitive,' asserts Liam. 'I downloaded trial versions of a few other accounting systems, but they didn't have very transparent pricing structures, and Liberty was the only one with integrated payroll.'
This was important, because although Wollaton Building has four employees, it wanted to keep its payroll administration costs to a minimum. 'If we do our own payroll it costs less than paying the accountant to do it,' he explains. So in addition to using Liberty for invoicing and other day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, the building firm uses it to handle monthly salaries, and submit annual PAYE returns, because as he comments: 'Liberty makes this easy to manage.'
You don't need to install Liberty on a PC...Liam also felt that it was vital for the directors of Wollaton to be able to look at the accounts quickly and easily, at their convenience. 'You don't need to install Liberty on a PC, so anyone with internet access and a browser can access it,' he says, and the directors of Wollaton can log onto the system and look at the accounts from where they live and work - or anywhere else. 'It's easy for all of us to use the system wherever we happen to be,' says Liam, who even logs onto Liberty when he's visiting his accountant's office. As he adds: 'With Liberty, Wollaton is getting an enterprise system without the big costs.'
