Internet entrepreneur Gregory Bricusse knows a thing or two about technology. As the brains behind the 020 directory, he has created an online search engine enabling visitors to locate London businesses with websites: ranging from caterers in Charing Cross to plasterers in Pimlico. A virtual business calls for a virtual accounting solution, so although 020 started out with paper-based book-keeping, Gregory wanted to exploit the benefits of the online approach.
020 was set up so that we could all work from anywhere, and we wanted the same from our accounting system…
‘Liberty reflects our business model,’ says Gregory, so just as 020 users can log onto the system anytime, anywhere, as long as they have a browser and internet access, so can any staff who need to use the accounting software. ‘020 was set up so that we could all work from anywhere, and we wanted the same from our accounting software,’ he adds, explaining: ‘I have salespeople in Dublin, London and South Wales,’ and they all need to be able to access the accounting software 24/7 from wherever they happen to be.
020 has been using Liberty Accounts for more than two years, and it has grown along with the company. As the directory has expanded from a start-up with a handful of visitors to a popular website with more than one and a quarter million pages viewed each month, so has its use of the online bookkeeping and payroll system.
now we use it for our VAT returns and to handle the payroll…
‘We started out using Liberty Accounts just to raise invoices,’ recalls Gregory, ‘but now we use it for our VAT returns and to handle the payroll.’ Businesses can use as few or as many of the Liberty features as they are comfortable with, as and when they are ready to do so; and increase the number of users as and when they need to. He adds: ‘Our accountant is happy with it, and the non-accountants have found it very easy to use too.’
